Israeli Couscous

I haven't done any cooking today (in fact, beyond inhaling a small bag of crisps and a muesli bar, I haven't really eaten anything since breakfast...which reminds me, I'm starving!) but I came across this recipe on a news website and thought it sounded delicious. I've never cooked with Israeli couscous - or even really seen it in shops - but I'm now intrigued. Has anyone cooked/eaten it before and if so, is it as good as it looks in this recipe/picture...??

  1. Never tried it but it looks delicious! They look like baby chickpeas. I"ll keep an eye out for it when I'm shopping and let you know if/when I try it.

  3. Just came back from the supermarket and they didn't have any Israeli couscous. I walked there and back - it's only 15 mins each way - and once again I bought far too much heavy stuff and nearly collapsed on the way home carrying it all! I swear I do this every week. And I was trying so hard today NOT to buy loads of really heavy stuff. I'm a very slow learner...with very sore (but growing in strength) shoulders! :-P

    I did get some Puy lentils though - the first time I've bought them. What shall I do with my precious can 'o pulses...?

  4. Ah yes, used to do that all the time - ride to the shops and then realise it was going to be impossible to get home again with all I'd bought. Definitely a good workout though, esp. for your arms!

    Mmm, puy lentils. One very simple thing is to cook them and then just serve with a drizzle of good olive oil and a pinch of salt. Yum! (Can you tell I LOVE lentils?). Or, a variation of this is to serve in a salad of sorts, maybe even just some baby spinach, a bit of olive oil and some balsamic. Otherwise, they'd work well in that rice dish I think I gave you the recipe for. Or with pasta - prepare a basic broth with onion, carrot, celery, garlic, lentils and a tomato. Season with salt and pepper. Cook the pasta (small stuff is best - broken spaghetti works well) in this broth. You can make it soupy or so that the pasta soaks up almost all the liquid. Serve with some good olive oil on top.

    I love that you're so passionate about lentils...they get a hard time sometimes but they really are a fabulous food!
